Dear Applicant:

We welcome your interest in our graduate training program in psychiatry, one which we believe is unsurpassed.

The MGH/McLean Psychiatry Residency is designed to encourage applications from individuals with diverse interests, representing all areas of psychiatry. Much will be expected of those we train: Psychiatry's Next Pioneers.

Practitioners in the 21st century must be broadly schooled, skilled in consulting to medically ill patients in the general hospital, in tending to the acute and chronically ill in the psychiatric in-patient wards and partial hospital setting, and in working alongside our medical colleagues in the outpatient clinics. Our two hospitals are blessed by remarkable clinical, teaching and research facilities, and twice blessed by an extraordinary faculty of clinicians, scholars and researchers who work with colleagues and residents from the day they arrive.

Our program is supported by two outstanding and complementary institutions. Those we train will be prepared to take leadership roles in clinical work, research, and education. Our residency curriculum insures that a graduating psychiatrist will have broad competence in a wide variety of psychiatric diagnoses, treatment modalities, and in treatment settings for a diverse spectrum of patients of all ages and from all socioeconomic backgrounds. We encourage development of an individually customized PGY IV year. Our vast clinical and research faculty at the MGH ensures all residents access to seasoned mentors at both the General Hospital and McLean.

This year, we are again seeking 16 talented residents with diverse backgrounds and with interest in psychiatric practice, research and teaching.

Unlike most psychiatry programs, an applicant is free to choose to match separately for a PGY I internship either in Boston or elsewhere. All applicants are strongly encouraged to investigate separate applications to such a one-year medical, pediatric, or transitional internship.

Official transcript of Medical School Grades.

Letter of recommendation from Dean of your medical school.
(These are usually available November 1 of your senior year)
